So I went all in with a new pair of Pirelli Bada Bing Super Poopers - it's only money right? So I spooned on the pair Thur evening and whipped em into shape with my handy dandy new el cheapo wheel balancer. Rode into work on Friday and they felt like -- tires? Guess I was expecting something special but it was just the short in town busy commute.
So, I followed the Pirelli directions exactly on the easy 200 mile breakin and went for a 235 mile ride today with about 50 other excellent riders from SoCal Sport Bikers. Probably should have followed the rules but what a waste that would have been. 100 miles of twisty great riding on Angeles Crest Highway from La Canada over to Wrightwood and then up the backside of the San Gabriels into Lake Arrowhead for lunch. Down the front side on some 100 mph sweepers into the inferno for last gas up before the final 60 miles of SoCal fun (aka lane splitting) and home to cool pleasure at the beach.
Great tires. Super smooth and stable. On the high speed stuff I was going faster than usual and I was actually trying to keep it down. I think the super smooth and stable gives a level of confidence I'm not used to. The high speed on the sweepers was somewhat unexpected I'm not used to and need to get more seat time in to be comfortable. At the end of the day, I was keeping up with the CBRs, the Ducacci's and the RRs.
$500 pluss a new wheel balance stand - guess it was worth it. What a great ride today
